Sylvie Mayer is from Providence, Rhode Island and attended the Rhode Island School of Design, receiving a BFA in Painting in 2018. She has been an artist-in-residence at Elsewhere Studios in Paonia, Colorado, Fondation des États-Unis in Paris, France, and Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado. While living in Oklahoma City between 2021 and 2023, Sylvie taught adult continuing education in painting and drawing at the Oklahoma Contemporary Studio School, the Firehouse Art Center, and Francis Tuttle Institute for Technology.

Sylvie is currently an MFA Candidate at Boston University and is the recipient of a 2023 grant from the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation.

Sylvie's paintings are informed by grief, loss and impermanence; the last days of fall when the leaves barely hang on to the trees, the moment of reaching a hand out to give or receive, the passageways and thresholds that mark our lives as we navigate aging. Her current work is interested in temporality, memorial, and movement.
